EdLaw: Vocabulary
Some of the Latin Words that are used throughout the Law portion of my site are defined below. Definitions are sourced from Reutter’s: The Law of Public Education (5th Edition)
- Stare Decisis: “To Abide By” – Also known as precedent or the idea that current courts abide by previous decisions.
- Loco Parentis: “Local Parent” – The principle that when students are in the “custody” of educators, the educators inherit local parental rights, including medical care and treatment.
