In case you have not figured it out yet, I am a bit of a Nerd. When I was a teenager, my friends and I played a lot of Magic: The Gathering. As I grew up, I started chasing girls more than I roamed the plains. That continued throughout my adult life, focusing more on social interactions than epic card games. Well that is until I started playing Hearthstone.

Hearthstone has reintroduced me to the genre of Epic, Deck-building Card Games.

Made by Blizzard, Hearthstone has more than 20 Million worldwide players. It is available on Mac, PC, Android, and iOS. Blizzard took the epic characters from the Warcraft series and turned them into a strategy card game. Within the game itself, you take on the persona of an epic character class. When you then engage your enemies, you draw cards and spend mana to summon your minions.

This winter saw the second major update to Hearthstone to date: Goblins vs. Gnomes. Hearthstone is a huge money maker, and we can expect to see a number of expansions over the coming years.

Summary

Hearthstone is a very intuitive Card Game from Blizzard. It involves playing and casting a deck full of cards against an opponent. The Gameplay is very intuitive, making it easy to pick up the game. The full storyline, progression, and expansions keep most players active and engaged. Using a daily quest system keeps most players coming back to get a full set of cards. As a game, it is great for the iPad, with matches lasting anywhere between 5-10 minutes on average. A great free card building game if you are a fan of the Warcraft brand of fantasy.
