App Essentials: iTeacherBook

iTeacherBook is a great app to help manage the demands and scheduling needs of your classroom.

There are a few disclaimers to this app however. Unfortunately, it has not been updated for quite some time, reducing its value as it appears to be underdeveloped at this point. It also has no way to directly export your scores and attendance to other LMS and SIS platforms.

It takes just a few minutes to setup your class and students in the App, and then you can use iTeacherBook to keep records of your students and how they are progressing in class. I find this a much nicer interface when I am working with parents and students during conferences. As a digital teacher, I keep my Laptop plugged in during the majority of my classroom time – demonstrating to students. Having everything on the iPad is very hand in that I can have individual discussions with each student without needing to change my display.

Summary

This is a great app for teachers. I have scored it a bit low because of the lack of updates and integration with other platforms. As a productivity tool, I have seen tremendous growth when I use it in planning my lessons and activities for class. With the easy ability to email your classes, this is a fantastic way to integrate technology into your planning process. The most engaging feature of the app, is the ability to carry all of your student data with you (and back it up to the cloud).
